Job Description
Are you a dedicated animal lover looking to make a meaningful impact on the lives of pets? Hôpital Vétérinaire des Capitales is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Part-Time Veterinary Kennel Assistant to join our weekend team. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals passionate about animal welfare, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced veterinary environment. You’ll play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our hospitalized and boarding animals, ensuring their well-being and contributing to the overall smooth operation of our clinic. Full training will be provided, so no prior experience is necessary – just a genuine desire to care for animals!
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for boarding and hospitalized animals, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their health and behavior.
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and common areas thoroughly and regularly to maintain a high standard of hygiene.
- Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint and handling during examinations and procedures.
- Monitor animal waste and ensure proper disposal.
- Administer medications as directed by veterinary staff (after training).
- Walk dogs and provide exercise for animals as appropriate.
- Maintain inventory of kennel supplies and report needs to management.
- Communicate effectively with veterinary staff regarding animal status and any concerns.
- Ensure all animals have fresh bedding and a comfortable living space.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the veterinary team.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and compassion for animals.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Reliable and punctual, especially for weekend shifts.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and a proactive attitude.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures.
- Comfortable working with various animal species and temperaments.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of animal behavior or prior experience with animal handling (e.g., volunteer work, pet sitting) is a plus, but not required.
- Fluency in French (oral and written) is an asset, English is also acceptable.
- Enrollment in a veterinary technician program is a bonus.
