Job Description

CEMA is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Civil Defense Volunteer Coordinator – Entry Level. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about community service and emergency preparedness, eager to kick-start their career with full training provided. You will play a crucial role in supporting our volunteer programs, helping to recruit, train, and coordinate a dedicated team of civil defense volunteers. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and a strong desire to learn and contribute to the safety and well-being of Calgary. No prior experience in emergency management or volunteer coordination is required; we will provide all the necessary training and mentorship to ensure your success in this vital role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of new civil defense volunteers.
  • Support the coordination of volunteer training sessions and drills.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records and databases.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers regarding schedules, assignments, and updates.
  • Provide administrative support to the volunteer program management team.
  • Help organize community outreach events to promote civil defense initiatives.
  • Contribute to developing engaging materials for volunteer engagement and recognition.
  • Participate in emergency exercises and real-world incidents as required, in a support capacity.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for community service and public safety.
  • Ability to pass a security clearance check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some volunteer experience in any capacity.
  • Familiarity with the city of Calgary and its communities.
  • Basic understanding of emergency preparedness concepts.
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License (or equivalent) and access to a reliable vehicle.
