Job Description

Join Schlumberger as a Drilling Fluids Engineer (Mud Engineer) and be a critical part of our drilling operations. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring drilling fluid programs to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling. This position requires hands-on experience and technical expertise in drilling fluid systems, working both in field and office environments. Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) will be provided for eligible candidates requiring sponsorship to work in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize drilling fluid programs for various drilling operations.
  • Conduct regular testing and analysis of drilling fluid properties to maintain specified parameters.
  • Provide technical support and recommendations to rig personnel regarding drilling fluid issues.
  • Manage drilling fluid inventory, including ordering, mixing, and disposal in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Monitor and report on drilling fluid performance, identifying potential problems and proposing solutions.
  • Collaborate with geologists, drilling supervisors, and other engineers to ensure successful well delivery.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and end-of-well reports on drilling fluid activities.
  • Ensure all operations comply with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related science/engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Engineer or Mud Engineer.
  • In-depth knowledge of various drilling fluid systems (WBM, OBM, SBM) and their applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to drilling fluid properties and performance.
  • Proficiency in drilling fluid calculations and reporting software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in challenging field environments and travel extensively.
  • Full UK driving license or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience with deepwater or complex well drilling operations.
  • Familiarity with UK offshore drilling regulations and practices.
  • Professional certifications in drilling fluids technology.
