Job Description

Bowen Center is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals for our Mental Health Crisis Hotline Intern program. This is a unique opportunity to gain invaluable experience in crisis intervention, active listening, and mental health support, all from the comfort of your home. As a remote intern, you will be on the front lines, providing crucial immediate support to individuals experiencing mental health crises. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal entry-level role for those eager to contribute to community mental wellness, regardless of prior professional experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls from individuals experiencing mental health crises with empathy and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Actively listen to callers, assess their immediate needs, and provide emotional support and validation.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques to help callers manage acute distress and anxiety.
  • Provide information and referrals to appropriate mental health resources, emergency services, or long-term support networks.
  • Accurately document call details, interventions, and follow-up actions in a confidential system.
  • Adhere strictly to all crisis intervention protocols, ethical guidelines, and confidentiality policies.
  • Participate actively in all required training sessions and ongoing supervision to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain a calm and professional demeanor, even in high-stress situations.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to ensure comprehensive client care.

  • Familiarity with mental health terminology and common psychological challenges.
