Job Description
Are you passionate about helping others achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life? UF Health Shands Hospital is seeking motivated individuals for the role of Trainee Occupational Therapy Aide in our Public Healthcare division. This entry-level position is perfect for those with no prior experience in occupational therapy, offering comprehensive on-the-job training and mentorship. You will work alongside experienced Occupational Therapists and OTs Assistants, providing crucial support in a dynamic public healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants with patient treatment activities as directed.
- Prepare treatment areas, ensuring they are clean, organized, and adequately stocked with necessary equipment and supplies.
- Escort patients to and from the therapy area, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Maintain therapy equipment, including cleaning, sterilizing, and performing basic maintenance tasks.
- Observe and report patient progress, concerns, or changes in condition to supervising therapists.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, documentation, and managing patient records as required.
- Ensure patient privacy and maintain confidentiality of all health information.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new software.
- Physical ability to assist with patient transfers and lift/move equipment (within reasonable limits).
- Reliability and punctuality.
- No prior experience in healthcare is required; full training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
- Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare setting.
- Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus.
- Demonstrated interest in the fields of healthcare, rehabilitation, or occupational therapy.
