Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Rail / Permanent Way Engineer to join our dynamic team in Cleveland, Ohio. This role is pivotal in the design, analysis, and maintenance of railway track infrastructure for various projects. The successful candidate will contribute to all phases of project delivery, from conceptual design through to construction support and commissioning. Key Responsibilities
- Perform permanent way design activities, including track alignment design, vertical profiles, cross-sections, and clearances.
- Conduct engineering analysis for railway track components, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and specifications (e.g., AREMA, FRA).
- Prepare technical reports, design calculations, specifications, and drawings for railway projects.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including structural, civil, and systems engineers to integrate permanent way designs.
- Participate in site investigations, surveys, and inspections to gather data and assess existing railway conditions.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to RFI’s and reviewing contractor submittals.
- Identify and resolve design issues, ensuring constructability and cost-effectiveness.
- Contribute to the development of project schedules and budgets.
- Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge within the team.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices, new technologies, and regulatory changes in rail engineering.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in permanent way design and rail infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation) and railway design software.
- Strong understanding of railway engineering principles, track geometry, and relevant design standards (e.g., AREMA).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project tasks and meet deadlines.
- Eligibility for professional engineering licensure or equivalent in your home country.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively working towards one.
- Experience with railway electrification, signaling, or bridge interfaces.
- Familiarity with project management software.
- Previous experience working on projects in North America.
