Job Description
We are seeking a talented and passionate Commercial Baker / Pastry Chef to join our esteemed culinary team. This role is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing our reputation for outstanding baked goods and pastries, from delicate afternoon tea selections to bespoke desserts for events. You will be instrumental in the preparation, production, and presentation of a wide range of bakery and patisserie items, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to our high standards. We are open to supporting eligible international candidates with LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) or Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake a wide variety of breads, pastries, cakes, desserts, and other baked goods following established recipes and standards.
- Develop new and innovative recipes and menu items for our afternoon tea, restaurant, and events.
- Ensure all products meet the highest standards of quality, presentation, and taste.
- Manage inventory of baking ingredients, place orders, and minimize waste.
- Operate and maintain all bakery equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to strict food safety and hygiene regulations at all times.
- Train and mentor junior bakery staff as required.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to coordinate production schedules and special requests.
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Commercial Baker or Pastry Chef in a professional setting.
- Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and artistic flair for presentation.
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP or similar).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary degree or professional certification in baking or pastry arts.
- Experience in a high-volume hotel, restaurant, or event catering environment.
- Creativity in developing new recipes and decorating techniques.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
