Job Description
Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Control Chemist to join our manufacturing lab in Albany, NY. In this critical role, you will be responsible for performing analytical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure they meet stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements. Your expertise will directly contribute to the safety and efficacy of our scientific products.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine analytical testing using various laboratory instruments (HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, Karl Fischer, etc.).
- Analyze raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products according to established specifications and procedures.
- Document all testing results accurately and completely in laboratory notebooks and LIMS.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to preventative maintenance schedules.
- Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) results and participate in root cause analysis.
- Assist in the development and validation of new analytical methods as needed.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and all company safety regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with production, R&D, and quality assurance teams.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- 2+ years of experience in a Quality Control laboratory, preferably in a manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment.
- Proficiency with analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, and FTIR.
- Strong understanding of GMP/GLP principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
- Familiarity with compendial testing (USP, EP, JP).
- Experience with method development and validation.
