Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Acoustics & Audio Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team in Spartanburg, SC. This internship offers a unique opportunity for aspiring engineers to gain hands-on experience in sound design, acoustic testing, and audio system integration within a world-class automotive manufacturing environment. As an intern, you will support our engineering teams in developing and refining the acoustic properties and audio experiences of future BMW vehicles. This is an entry-level position designed for students eager to learn and apply foundational engineering principles in a practical setting, with full training and mentorship provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers with acoustic measurement and analysis of vehicle components and full vehicles.
  • Support the development and implementation of sound design concepts for various vehicle systems (e.g., engine sound, interior alerts, infotainment audio).
  • Conduct tests and collect data using specialized audio and acoustic equipment.
  • Help analyze test data and prepare reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings to discuss project progress and challenges.
  • Contribute to the documentation of engineering processes, test procedures, and design specifications.
  • Research new technologies and methodologies in acoustics and audio engineering.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Acoustics, Audio Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Fundamental understanding of acoustics, signal processing, and sound principles.
  • Proficiency with basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior academic project experience in acoustics, audio design, or noise vibration and harshness (NVH).
  • Familiarity with acoustic simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) or audio analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python for data analysis).
  • Experience with audio recording and editing software (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro).
  • Demonstrated interest in the automotive industry and vehicle technology.
