Job Description
Are you passionate about bikes and eager to kickstart a career in mechanics? Bike Share Toronto is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Bicycle Fleet Mechanic (Trainee). No prior experience in bike mechanics is required – we believe in nurturing talent and will provide comprehensive training to help you become a skilled professional. This entry-level role is perfect for someone with a mechanical aptitude, a keen eye for detail, and a desire to learn how to assemble, maintain, and repair our fleet of rental bicycles, ensuring they are safe and ready for our riders.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and unbox new bicycle components and frames.
- Accurately assemble new bicycles according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- Perform initial quality and safety checks on newly assembled bikes.
- Assist experienced mechanics with routine maintenance, adjustments, and minor repairs on existing fleet bicycles.
- Learn to identify and diagnose common bicycle issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Document work performed and parts used accurately.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
Required Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of hand tools (e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers) is a plus, but not required.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- No prior professional bike mechanic experience is necessary; full training provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A personal interest in cycling or bicycle mechanics.
- Previous experience with general assembly or repair tasks (e.g., hobbies, personal projects).
- Valid G Class Driver's License (asset, but not required).
