Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate Constitutional Law Intern to join our team in Halifax. This internship offers a unique opportunity for aspiring legal professionals to gain hands-on experience in public interest law, specifically focusing on constitutional rights and civil liberties. The intern will work closely with our legal team, contributing to impactful cases and advocacy initiatives. This role is ideal for individuals eager to learn about Canadian constitutional law in practice and contribute to meaningful legal advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on constitutional law, human rights, and civil liberties issues.
- Draft legal memoranda, summaries of case law, and policy briefs.
- Assist in preparing legal documents for litigation and advocacy campaigns.
- Monitor developments in constitutional law and policy.
- Support public education initiatives and outreach programs.
- Organize and maintain legal files and databases.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to strategic discussions.
Required Skills
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Demonstrated interest in constitutional law, human rights, and social justice.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in legal research databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw).
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a law program (JD/LLB).

- Previous volunteer experience with advocacy groups or non-profits.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
- Ability to speak French is an asset.
- Experience with public speaking or presentation delivery.
