Job Description
Are you passionate about local politics, community organizing, and making a tangible impact? The Calgary Civic Action Network is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Election Campaign & Grassroots Intern to join our team. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in political campaigning, community outreach, and grassroots organizing. You will learn the fundamentals of election cycles, voter engagement strategies, and the power of direct community interaction. This role is perfect for individuals eager to dive into the world of politics, contribute to meaningful campaigns, and develop valuable skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Full training and mentorship will be provided, ensuring you are equipped to succeed and grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of grassroots community outreach events, including town halls, meet-and-greets, and volunteer recruitment drives.
- Engage with community members door-to-door and at public events to discuss local issues, gather feedback, and promote civic participation.
- Support campaign communication efforts by drafting social media content, email newsletters, and basic press materials.
- Conduct research on local issues, demographics, and voter sentiment to inform campaign strategies.
- Perform data entry and manage voter contact lists using CRM software.
- Provide administrative and logistical support for campaign activities, including materials preparation, scheduling, and volunteer coordination.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to strategic discussions.
- Support volunteer recruitment, training, and appreciation initiatives.
Required Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Enthusiasm for political processes, community engagement, and social issues.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Google Suite or Microsoft Office.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within Calgary for outreach activities.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing priorities.
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Political Science, Public Relations, Communications, Sociology, or a related field.
- Previous volunteer experience in community organizing, political campaigns, or non-profit organizations.
- Familiarity with the political landscape and key community issues in Calgary.
- Basic knowledge of social media platforms for outreach purposes.
