Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join our team as Government General Hands for Local Area Support. This entry-level role is perfect for those looking to start a career in local government operations. You will be instrumental in assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of public spaces, facilities, and various infrastructure projects across the Cairns region. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to learn new skills and contribute to their community.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general labouring tasks including manual handling, digging, and lifting.
- Assist skilled tradespersons and team leaders on various public works projects.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of public areas, parks, and facilities.
- Operate basic hand tools and power tools under supervision, adhering to all safety guidelines.
- Report any hazards, damage, or maintenance issues promptly to supervisors.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive and safe work environment.
- Adhere to all Council policies, procedures, and WHS regulations.
- Assist with event setup and takedown as required for community events.
Required Skills
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Basic level of physical fitness to perform manual tasks.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- A current and valid Australian Driver's License (manual competency preferred).
- Ability to follow safety instructions and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a manual labour, outdoor, or general hand role (even if informal).
- Current Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Basic First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of the Cairns local area.
