Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Piping Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in North Vancouver. This role is crucial for developing innovative and cost-effective piping system designs for large-scale industrial projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and detailing piping layouts, ensuring compliance with industry codes, standards, and client specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant engineering projects and work alongside a team of dedicated professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual and detailed piping layouts and designs using 3D modeling software.
  • Prepare and review piping specifications, material requisitions, and insulation requirements.
  • Perform pipe stress analysis and support design, ensuring structural integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, civil, electrical, instrumentation) to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Conduct interdisciplinary design reviews and participate in model reviews (3D).
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry codes (ASME B31.1, B31.3, etc.), standards, and client project specifications.
  • Prepare piping MTOs (Material Take-Offs) and assist in procurement activities.
  • Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in piping design engineering, preferably within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Aveva PDMS, SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), or PDS.
  • Strong understanding of piping codes and standards (ASME B31.1, B31.3).
  • Experience with pipe stress analysis software (e.g., CAESAR II).
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, plot plans, and equipment drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada or eligibility for registration.
  • Experience with international project execution.
  • Knowledge of other relevant software tools like Navisworks.
  • Experience in lead design roles on projects.
