Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurse to join our community health team in Sioux Falls, SD. This vital role focuses on promoting and protecting the health of the community through education, prevention, and direct care services. The Public Health Nurse will work with diverse populations, identifying health needs, implementing health programs, and advocating for public health policies. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct community health assessments to identify health needs and disparities.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate health education programs for individuals and groups on various public health topics (e.g., nutrition, chronic disease management, infectious disease prevention).
- Administer immunizations and conduct screenings (e.g., blood pressure, diabetes, vision, hearing).
- Provide case management and direct nursing care for individuals and families in community settings.
- Collaborate with community organizations, schools, and government agencies to address public health challenges.
- Investigate communicable disease outbreaks and implement control measures.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on public health activities and outcomes.
- Advocate for policies that promote health and prevent disease within the community.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Dakota (or eligibility for licensure).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Cultural competence and sensitivity to community needs.
- Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic health records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Prior experience in public health, community health, or home health settings.
- Certification in Public Health Nursing (CPHN) or a related specialty.
- Proficiency in a second language relevant to the local population.
