Job Description
As a School Crossing Guard Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of children traveling to and from schools across Slough. This position involves the supervision, training, and coordination of our team of dedicated School Crossing Guards, ensuring they operate effectively and adhere to all safety protocols and local authority guidelines. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of service, managing rotas, handling equipment, and responding to incidents, all while promoting road safety awareness within the community. This is a critical role that directly impacts the well-being of our youngest residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the School Crossing Guard service across designated areas within Slough.
- Recruit, train, and manage a team of School Crossing Guards, including performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
- Develop and implement effective work schedules and rotas to ensure adequate coverage at all school crossing points.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor performance, ensure compliance with safety standards, and provide on-the-job support.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, attendance, equipment, and training.
- Liaise with schools, parents, and community groups to promote road safety initiatives and address concerns.
- Ensure all equipment (stop signs, uniforms, etc.) is in good working order and supplied as needed.
- Investigate and resolve complaints or issues related to school crossing services.
- Act as a point of contact for emergency services and local residents regarding crossing safety.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role.
- Strong understanding of road safety principles and practices, particularly concerning children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively with staff, public, and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage and motivate a team, providing clear direction and support.
- Good organizational and administrative skills, including record-keeping and rota management.
- Full UK Driving License and access to a vehicle for travel between sites.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Preferred Qualifications
- Qualification in first aid.
- Experience working within a local authority or public service environment.
- Knowledge of local geographical area of Slough.
- Experience in delivering training.
