Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and enthusiastic Special Effects (SFX) Workshop Assistant to join our creative fabrication team in St. George, UT. This on-site role is perfect for someone passionate about hands-on creation, eager to learn, and ready to support the production of spectacular special effects and scenic elements for world-class entertainment projects. You will work closely with experienced fabricators, artists, and technicians, assisting with a variety of tasks from material preparation to final assembly, ensuring our workshop operates smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior fabricators and artists with the creation of SFX props, scenic elements, and specialized components through various processes including sculpting, molding, casting, painting, and finishing.
  • Prepare materials and tools for projects, ensuring everything is readily available and organized.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment, including tool upkeep and material storage.
  • Operate various hand and power tools safely and effectively under supervision.
  • Support inventory management by tracking material usage and assisting with supply orders.
  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance on workshop equipment as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all workshop safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Contribute to problem-solving and creative solutions for fabrication challenges.
  • Assist with packing and transportation of finished products as required.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to use various hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Basic understanding of general fabrication principles (e.g., woodworking, metalworking, plastics).
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Physical stamina required for lifting, standing for extended periods, and performing manual tasks.
  • Excellent work ethic and a proactive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Basic mathematical and measurement skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in a fabrication workshop, art studio, theater production, or similar creative environment.
  • A degree, certificate, or vocational training in sculpture, fine arts, industrial design, theatrical production, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with various materials such as resins, foams, silicone, fiberglass, and other SFX mediums.
  • Portfolio demonstrating hands-on projects or artistic abilities.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain one.
