Job Description

WSP Global is seeking a talented and passionate Urban Planner / Town Planner to join our dynamic team in Laval, Quebec. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on demographics, land use, economic trends, and environmental factors.
  • Prepare and present planning reports, policy documents, and design proposals.
  • Develop comprehensive master plans, zoning bylaws, and subdivision plans.
  • Facilitate public consultations, workshops, and stakeholder engagement meetings.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including engineers, architects, landscape architects, and environmental specialists.
  • Review development applications for compliance with municipal policies and regulations.
  • Provide expert advice on planning policies, legislation, and best practices.
  • Assist in project management, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Required Skills

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of urban planning principles, theories, and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French (highly preferred for Quebec).
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant planning legislation and regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Demonstrated project coordination and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec (OUQ) or Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).
  • Experience with community engagement and public consultation processes.
  • Knowledge of sustainable development principles and smart growth strategies.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Previous experience working in a consulting environment or for a municipal planning department.
