Job Description
Are you looking for an opportunity to kick-start a rewarding career in environmental services? North Northamptonshire Council is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Waste Management Supervisor to join our dedicated team in Corby. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with no prior experience in waste management or supervision. We believe in nurturing talent, and we’ll provide comprehensive training and support to help you develop into a skilled and effective supervisor. You will learn all aspects of waste collection, recycling, and disposal operations, contributing directly to the environmental health of our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Undergo comprehensive training in all aspects of waste management operations, including collection routes, recycling processes, and disposal procedures.
- Assist experienced supervisors in overseeing daily operational activities for waste collection teams.
- Learn and apply health and safety regulations pertinent to waste management, ensuring compliance within your team.
- Support the scheduling and allocation of resources (vehicles, personnel) to optimize efficiency.
- Help monitor team performance and provide initial feedback under guidance.
- Participate in record-keeping and administrative tasks related to waste management.
- Engage with residents and respond to enquiries professionally and courteously.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the waste management department.
Required Skills

- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic IT literacy (e.g., email, word processing).
- A full, clean UK driving license (essential for site visits and potential vehicle operation).

Preferred Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics at grade C/4 or above.
