Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and meticulous National Archive Assistant to join our team in St Albans. This is a permanent, full-time position ideally suited for individuals who appreciate a quiet, focused working environment and possess a strong aptitude for detail and organization. You will play a crucial role in the preservation and management of historical documents and records, contributing to projects that safeguard our collective heritage. While no prior experience is strictly required, a keen eye for detail and a methodical approach are essential, and full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately sort, classify, and catalogue archival materials according to established procedures.
- Perform careful physical handling, rehousing, and shelving of documents, photographs, and other media.
- Conduct data entry and maintain digital records with precision and attention to detail.
- Assist in the retrieval and re-filing of materials for research requests, ensuring security and proper tracking.
- Monitor environmental conditions within storage areas and report any discrepancies.
- Adhere strictly to all archival preservation and conservation guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure workspace.
- Collaborate respectfully with team members in a quiet, focused setting.
