Job Description
Horizon Legal Group is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Intellectual Property (IP) Attorney to join our growing team in Naperville, IL. This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney passionate about intellectual property law, ready to handle a diverse range of IP matters for a varied client base, including innovative startups and established corporations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in protecting our clients’ valuable intellectual assets, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, and will advise on complex IP strategy, licensing, and enforcement.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting and prosecuting patent applications across various technical fields.
- Conducting intellectual property due diligence and freedom-to-operate analyses.
- Advising clients on trademark and copyright registration, protection, and enforcement.
- Negotiating and drafting IP-related agreements, including licenses, assignments, and confidentiality agreements.
- Assisting in IP litigation matters, including discovery, motion practice, and settlement negotiations.
- Providing strategic counsel on IP portfolio management and risk mitigation.
- Monitoring legal developments in intellectual property law and advising clients accordingly.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Bar in any U.S. state (Illinois Bar preferred, or ability to waive in).
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in intellectual property law, with a focus on patent prosecution or IP litigation.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, or a related scientific field.
- Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant technical discipline.
- Experience with international IP matters and foreign patent prosecution.
- Demonstrated success in client relationship management and business development.
- Fluency in additional languages.
