Job Description
We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Trainee Border Inspection Officers. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals with a strong sense of duty and a desire to contribute to national security. No prior experience in law enforcement or border control is required, as we provide extensive, paid training covering all aspects of border inspection, security protocols, and relevant laws. Successful candidates will undergo a rigorous training program designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in this critical role. Upon completion of training, officers will be responsible for enforcing immigration and customs laws, inspecting individuals and cargo, and identifying potential threats at official points of entry. Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively and successfully complete all phases of the comprehensive training program
- Learn and apply federal laws, regulations, and policies related to border security and trade
- Inspect travel documents, identify individuals, and verify citizenship status at points of entry
- Examine conveyances, cargo, and merchandise for compliance with import/export regulations
- Detect and prevent the entry of illegal goods, contraband, and inadmissible persons
- Interview travelers and conduct investigations as necessary
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment used for inspection and security
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and governmental departments
- Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports
- Adhere to all safety procedures and agency protocols
Required Skills
- U.S. Citizenship
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph examination, and drug test
- Ability to pass a physical fitness test and medical examination
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities under pressure
- Commitment to public service and ethical conduct
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, or a related field
- Fluency in a second language (especially Spanish, Haitian Creole, or other relevant languages)
- Previous experience in customer service, security, or a physically demanding role
- Strong computer proficiency
