Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Supply Chain Director to lead and optimise our supply chain operations from our key hub in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. This pivotal role involves overseeing the end-to-end supply chain for a significant portion of our UK operations, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and resilience. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping our supply chain strategy, driving innovation, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You will be responsible for managing complex logistics, supplier relationships, inventory, and distribution networks to meet the demands of our vast customer base, while upholding Tesco’s commitment to sustainability and ethical practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive supply chain strategy aligned with overall business objectives, focusing on efficiency, cost reduction, and service levels.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of supply chain professionals across various functions, including logistics, procurement, and inventory management.
  • Oversee all aspects of inbound and outbound logistics, warehousing, and distribution to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and partners, negotiating favourable terms and ensuring compliance with quality and ethical standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through process optimisation, technology adoption, and data-driven insights.
  • Manage the supply chain budget, forecast demand accurately, and implement robust inventory control measures to minimise waste and maximise stock availability.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks within the supply chain, including disruptions, compliance issues, and market fluctuations.
  • Ensure all supply chain activities comply with relevant regulations, company policies, and sustainability targets.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years' progressive experience in supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a large retail or FMCG environment.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful supply chain strategies that delivered significant business impact.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing large budgets, with a clear understanding of P&L drivers.
  • Expertise in logistics, warehousing, inventory management, procurement, and supply chain technology.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant ERP and supply chain management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Certification in Supply Chain Management (e.g., CIPS, CSCP).
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing new supply chain technologies or digital transformation projects.
  • International supply chain experience.
