Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Drilling Operations Lead to join our dynamic team in the resource sector. Based in Geelong, Victoria, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of drilling operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to project timelines and budgets. This role requires a strong leader with a proven track record in managing complex drilling projects and teams in challenging environments. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and driving operational excellence across our drilling programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all drilling operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor drilling programs and procedures to optimize performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Oversee drill rig scheduling, logistics, and maintenance to maximize uptime and operational effectiveness.
  • Manage and mentor a team of drilling professionals, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring continuous professional development.
  • Collaborate with geological, engineering, and maintenance teams to integrate drilling activities with overall project goals.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze data, and report on drilling progress, challenges, and successes.
  • Manage contractor relationships and ensure adherence to contractual obligations and performance targets.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives in drilling technology and operational practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in drilling operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role within the resource sector.
  • Demonstrated expertise in various drilling methods (e.g., core drilling, RC drilling, production drilling).
  • Strong understanding of drilling equipment, technology, and maintenance principles.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations, environmental compliance, and risk management in drilling operations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant drilling software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mining, Mechanical, Geological) or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in drilling operations, safety management, or project management.
  • Experience with drilling in diverse geological formations.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Australian driver's license.
