Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Mycology & Mushroom Cultivation Intern to join our research team in Baie-Comeau. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals passionate about fungi and sustainable agriculture, with no prior professional experience required. Full training will be provided, offering a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic laboratory and cultivation setting. The intern will assist senior mycologists and researchers in various aspects of mushroom cultivation, laboratory maintenance, and data collection, contributing directly to ongoing research projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with all stages of mushroom cultivation, including substrate preparation, inoculation, and fruiting
  • Prepare sterile growth media and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Monitor and record environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, CO2) in cultivation chambers
  • Document experimental observations and collect data accurately
  • Help with harvesting, processing, and packaging cultivated mushrooms
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and cultivation facilities
  • Follow strict sterile protocols and safety guidelines

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated interest in mycology, biology, environmental science, or agriculture
  • Eagerness to learn and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols
  • Excellent attention to detail and observational skills
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 20 lbs (e.g., substrate bags) and standing for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program related to biology, mycology, agriculture, or a related scientific field
  • Previous volunteer experience in a laboratory, farm, or garden setting
  • A basic understanding of sterile techniques or eagerness to master them
