Job Description
The City of Savannah is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Trainee Environmental Health Officer. This is an exceptional entry-level opportunity for those passionate about public health and environmental protection. No prior experience in environmental health is required, as comprehensive training will be provided to equip the successful candidate with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in this vital role. You will learn to conduct inspections, investigate complaints, and enforce environmental health regulations under the guidance of experienced officers.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program covering all aspects of environmental health.
- Assist experienced Environmental Health Officers in conducting routine inspections of food establishments, public swimming pools, and other regulated facilities.
- Learn to investigate environmental health complaints, including those related to sanitation, air quality, and nuisance conditions.
- Shadow senior officers in performing risk assessments and recommending corrective actions.
- Develop an understanding of federal, state, and local environmental health laws and regulations.
- Prepare clear and concise reports on findings and actions taken during inspections and investigations.
- Communicate effectively with business owners, residents, and other stakeholders regarding environmental health standards and compliance.
- Participate in public health outreach and education initiatives as required.
