Job Description
Are you passionate about technology and eager to kickstart your career in IT infrastructure? Optus Business is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Systems Engineer to join our growing team in Rockingham, WA. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals with foundational IT knowledge and a strong desire to learn and develop. You will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience with server, network, and cloud infrastructure, while contributing to the stability and performance of our systems. Full training and mentorship will be provided, offering a clear pathway for professional growth in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers with the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of server, network, and storage infrastructure.
- Perform routine system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, and systems.
- Provide first-level support for infrastructure-related incidents, performing basic troubleshooting and escalation as required.
- Contribute to documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Participate in infrastructure projects, learning best practices for system design and implementation.
- Conduct regular backups and recovery tests to ensure data integrity.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to infrastructure engineering.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux)
- Familiarity with network concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High level of motivation and eagerness to learn
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Basic knowledge of virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
- Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) concepts
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) is a plus
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Server+
