Job Description

The Canada Border Services Agency is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team as Trainee Revenue & Customs Officers in Thunder Bay. This entry-level position is designed for individuals with no prior experience in law enforcement or customs. You will learn to enforce customs and immigration legislation, identify prohibited goods, assess duties and taxes, and provide critical frontline service to the public, all while safeguarding Canada’s borders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all aspects of the rigorous training program, including classroom instruction and practical exercises.
  • Learn and apply federal legislation, regulations, and policies related to customs, immigration, and border security.
  • Assist senior officers with the inspection of goods, vehicles, and persons entering Canada.
  • Develop skills in identifying potential risks, enforcing compliance, and conducting preliminary investigations.
  • Interact professionally with the public, providing clear information and exceptional service.
  • Accurately complete documentation and reports related to border crossings and enforcement actions.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and use equipment as trained.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment at Canada's borders.

Required Skills

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Valid driver's license (or willingness to obtain one).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to make sound judgments under pressure.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and technologies.
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of the role (e.g., standing for long periods, lifting, use of force training).
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment background checks and security clearances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in a related field (e.g., Criminology, Law Enforcement, Public Administration).
  • Previous experience in customer service, security, or a similar field.
  • Bilingualism (English/French).
  • Knowledge of other languages relevant to the local community.
