Job Description
Are you a passionate student of gerontology or aging studies looking for a hands-on experience in senior care? Bupa UK is offering an exciting internship opportunity to contribute to our mission of enhancing the quality of life for older adults. This role is designed for individuals eager to apply academic knowledge in a practical setting, gaining invaluable insights into the operations, challenges, and innovations within the senior care sector. You will work alongside experienced professionals, assisting with research, program development, and direct support initiatives that improve the well-being of our residents. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the research and development of new senior care programs and activities tailored to residents' needs.
- Support the implementation of person-centred care plans for residents, ensuring dignity and respect.
- Participate in daily activities and social engagements, fostering a vibrant and supportive community atmosphere.
- Contribute to data collection and analysis related to resident well-being, program effectiveness, and quality improvement.
- Help organize and facilitate educational workshops for staff, families, and residents on aging-related topics.
- Shadow senior staff to understand operational management, regulatory compliance, and best practices in care homes.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other documentation on project findings, observations, and recommendations.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Gerontology, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Public Health, or a closely related field.
- Strong interest in senior care, gerontology, and a commitment to improving the lives of older adults.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with diverse individuals.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to care.
- Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience or part-time work in a senior living facility, community centre, or healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with basic qualitative or quantitative research methods and data interpretation.
- An understanding of health and safety protocols and ethical considerations in a care environment.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to the local community (e.g., Polish, Punjabi, Romanian) is a plus but not essential.
