Job Description
Join Kaiser Permanente as a Counseling & Therapy Intern for a supervised practicum experience. This program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience within an integrated healthcare system. Interns will work under the direct supervision of licensed therapists and psychologists, providing a range of counseling services to diverse patient populations. This is an excellent opportunity for master’s level students seeking to fulfill practicum requirements, develop clinical skills, and contribute to a patient-centered care model. Full training and comprehensive supervision will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial assessments and intake interviews under supervision.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to patients, following established treatment plans.
- Participate in case conferences and clinical team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment strategies.
- Document client interactions, progress notes, and treatment plans in electronic health records (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to ensure holistic patient care.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all ethical and legal guidelines related to client care.
- Engage in weekly individual and group supervision sessions with assigned clinical supervisors.
- Develop and implement crisis intervention strategies as needed, under direct supervision.
- Contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral program in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of counseling theories and techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated empathy, active listening skills, and a non-judgmental approach.
- Commitment to ethical practice and professional boundaries.
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and communication.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or observational experience in a clinical or community mental health setting.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or other languages common in the Oakland area.
