Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Building Maintenance Hand to join our team in Mildura, supporting public housing facilities. This entry-level role is perfect for someone eager to learn and develop practical skills in building maintenance. You will work alongside experienced tradespeople, assisting with a variety of repair and maintenance tasks to ensure the comfort and safety of our residents. Full training will be provided to help you excel in this vital role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine minor repairs and maintenance tasks within public housing properties, including basic carpentry, patching, painting, and general upkeep.
  • Assist qualified tradespersons (e.g., electricians, plumbers, carpenters) with more complex repairs and installations.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and troubleshoot minor issues, reporting major problems to supervisors.
  • Conduct regular inspections of properties to identify and report maintenance needs.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, tools, and equipment.
  • Provide excellent customer service to residents, ensuring clear communication and respectful interactions.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities, time spent, and materials used.

Required Skills

  • A strong willingness to learn and develop practical skills in building maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of general hand tool use and safety (training provided).
  • Good problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, carrying, and working at heights (where appropriate, with training).
  • A current Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience (even informal) in a hands-on role or trade assistant position.
  • Basic knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) procedures.
  • Current First Aid certificate.
