Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Flight Nurse to join our specialist aeromedical team based in Grafton, NSW. In this critical role, you will provide advanced nursing care and support during aeromedical retrievals and transfers, often in challenging and remote environments. This position requires exceptional clinical expertise, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care under pressure. You will work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, ensuring the safe and effective transport of patients across vast distances.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced clinical assessment, interventions, and ongoing patient management during aeromedical transport.
- Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment in an aircraft environment.
- Collaborate effectively with pilots, medical doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure comprehensive and accurate patient documentation and record-keeping.
- Maintain high standards of clinical governance and adhere to RFDS policies and procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
- Respond rapidly and efficiently to emergency situations.
- Provide compassionate care and support to patients and their families.
Required Skills
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).
- Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience in a critical care, emergency, or intensive care setting.
- Demonstrated advanced clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in advanced life support techniques (ALS, PALS, ATLS or equivalent).
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Current unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care, Emergency Nursing, or Aeromedical Retrieval.
- Previous aeromedical or remote area nursing experience.
- Experience with helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft operations.
- Proficiency in advanced airway management and ventilator care.
