Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Ergonomics & Human Factors Intern to join our Workplace Safety team. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in applying ergonomic principles to improve workplace safety and reduce injury risk within a large healthcare environment. You will assist in conducting assessments, developing solutions, and implementing initiatives focused on optimizing human performance and well-being. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting, with full training provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting ergonomic assessments of various workstations and tasks across different departments (e.g., administrative, clinical, facilities).
- Collect and analyze data related to workplace injuries, discomfort, and near-miss incidents to identify ergonomic risk factors.
- Support the development and implementation of ergonomic solutions, including recommending workstation adjustments, tools, and best practices.
- Help prepare educational materials and deliver basic training sessions on ergonomic principles and safe work practices.
- Participate in cross-functional team meetings related to safety, health, and wellness initiatives.
- Research current trends and best practices in ergonomics and human factors.
- Document findings, recommendations, and project progress accurately.
Required Skills
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Ergonomics, Industrial Engineering, Human Factors, Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of ergonomic principles and biomechanics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong observational and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and apply new concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior exposure to healthcare environments or similar large organizational settings.
- Familiarity with data collection and basic statistical analysis methods.
- Experience with presentation development or public speaking.
